A fully differentiated and resourced lesson that introduce students to the context surrounding Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. We look at ideas about the American Dream, and how the Great Depression impacted on American society after the Roaring Twenties. Additionally, we look at how Steinbeck introduces setting and character at the start of the novel and how these are linked to the idea of the American Dream. Designed for Literature students but easily adaptable for younger ages.
Love and Relationships lesson. A fully differentiated lesson on The Farmer’s Bride by Charlotte Mew, that analyses how the farmer is portrayed and how his relationship with his wife is presented by the writer. Includes key words, key quotes, differentiated activities and visually engaging and interesting resources for students preparing for AQA English Literature Paper 2 at KS4, but can also be easily adapted for KS3 students as well.

Focussing on the character of the Nurse from Romeo and Juliet, we look at how she is presented to us as an audience, how she acts as both a plot device and comic relief, and we analyse her use of language as well. In Act 2 Scene 5 Shakespeare takes advantage of dramatic irony to make the audience laugh, and we explore his use of language in this scene as well. An excellent lesson for AQA English Literature students preparing for their exams, but easily adaptable for other exam boards and other year groups as well.

Romeo and Juliet lesson with a focus on the character of Friar Laurence, this lesson supports students as they develop a clear understanding of the character of Friar Lawrence and analyse key quotes from him in Act 2 Scene 3 to explain and evaluate what kind of a character he is. Particularly useful for students preparing for English Literature exams but easily adaptable for KS3 classes.

Focussing on The Ghost of Christmas Past in Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, in this fully differentiated and resourced lesson we look at how Dickens presents the Ghost’s appearance and why, as well as analysing key quotes to see how Scrooge shows increasing remorse and regret before creating our own analytical paragraphs.
